Jessica Walker
Jessica Walker specialises in the creation of genre-defying performance. Originally an opera singer, she has over the last few years become known for her distinctive music theatre works, which are commissioned by opera companies, theatres and music festivals alike, with current projects in development across the UK and in Europe.
Equally at home in contemporary opera, cabaret and theatre, she continues to perform both nationally and internationally, with recent critically-acclaimed performances in New York, Paris, Holland, Switzerland and Japan. Her text, Voices of Power, with music by Luke Styles, featured as the headline commission for the 2022 Three Choir’s Festival and her recent performances have seen her at the Lichfield Festival (where she is an Associate Artist), O Festival in Holland, Norfolk & Norwich Festival, Brighton Festival, Deal Festival and the Presteigne Festival.
Her recent cabaret shows include (Dead) Funny Women, Girls Will Be Boys and The People’s Cabaret (the latter with composer Luke Styles); film projects include Scene Unseen, in collaboration with the Royal & Derngate Theatre/ETO. Her current projects include her first full opera libretto Coming up for air for Leipzig Opera with composer Bernd Franke (to premiere in 2025-6), further writing collaborations with composer Luke Styles, and performances in London, returns to Deal and Lichfield Festivals, and a recital of songs by Brel and Barbara in St Omer, all in 2024.
